I’m eagerly anticipating the warmer, longer days of spring with the excitement of new life bubbling about on my dog walks! It’s also the perfect time to think about getting new professional photos taken. I’ve booked a shoot to redo my own portraits for the first week in April and I’m getting ready to do some shopping prep this week! I’ll be following all the guidelines I give my own clients here.
NPR Always Inspiring
My motivation to get new portraits started when I listened to the NPR interview about the collaboration between Getty Images and LeanIn.org. They have produced a collection of stock images that better reflect the modern working woman and their families. The images are gorgeous and the audio is well worth the 4 minute listen. Pamela Grossman, the Director of Visual trends at Getty Images says, “One of the interesting things that we know is that it’s primarily women who are the users of social media. And that means that it’s women who are creating these images of themselves and their actual lives, and who are demanding to have these images reflected now in advertising and in media.”
Seeing women reflected in a way that’s empowering and relatable is what I aim to do with every shoot, this piece was like a shot of adrenaline for me. Inspiring me as a photographer and an entrepreneur.
Although I’m not in the business of creating stock images my work is focused on women’s professional presence, which is also playing a major role in reframing the look of a working woman. We are no longer conforming to the male corporate image of blazers and puffed up chests. For example Cindy Saxman Margulies, Mortgage Specialist at Guard Hill Financial, came in last week for an image freshening.
Cindy’s look feels confident, connected, friendly, stylish and feminine.
